What is poha???

       Poha is nothing but rice that has been parboiled, rolled, flattened and then dried to produce flakes. The flakes come in different thicknesses depending on the pressure used in the flattening process.


How to make poha?


+ 2 cups poha

+ water as needed

+ 2 tablespoons soybean oil

+ 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds

+ 2 chopped green chillies

+ 2 chopped onions

+ 2 tablespoons of chopped tomatoes

+ 2-3 curry leaves

+ 1 tablespoon of toasted peanuts

+ 2-3 tablespoons of chopped boiled and peeled potatoes

+ 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

+ salt as needed

+ 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder

+ 1 tablespoon of coriander leaves

+ 1 tablespoon of grated coconut


                    Soak poha in a bowl with water.

Heat a pan with soybean oil.

Add cumin seeds, green chillies and chopped onions and tomatoes. Also add curry leaves.

Fry until the onions turn pinkish in color.

The cumin seeds should not turn black, just darker in color.

Sprinkle toasted peanuts and potatoes.

Stir and mix.

Drain the poha from water.

Add the poha to the pan with the ingredients.

Stir and pour in the lemon juice.

Sprinkle salt, turmeric powder and coriander leaves.

Stir and cook for a bit until the poha is mixed well with the ingredients.

Garnish with coconut and your POHA is ready to serve.
